45 mi (72 km) south of downtown Salt Lake City, Orem is known for its
commitment to the arts, its dedication to amateur and professional athletics, and its
breathtaking views of Mount Timpanogos. This college town is home to the NBA Development League's Utah Flash, an affiliate of the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics, as well as the Orem Owlz, a minor-league
baseball team cultivating talent for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Guests visiting Orem in June may be interested in visiting Summerfest,
a two-day festival celebrating the community's vibrant culture and
featuring several activities such as a carnival, live entertainment,
and a 3 mi (5 km) run. In August, families around the region attend the
popular Timpanogos Storytelling Festival, a three-day event full of writing workshops and live readings by some of the United States' most
entertaining storytellers.
