The centerpiece of Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, this temple stands as the headquarters and highest temple of the worldwide Mormon Church. In 1853, four days after entering the valley that is now Salt Lake City, Brigham Young laid the first cornerstone of the six-spired granite temple.
